A much better result for the CPR boys. Some good passing, movement and communication brought CPR a deserved victory.
Despite fielding a couple of debutants, CPR started this game brightly, and looked more confident than their Premier Division counterparts. This early pressure was rewarded after 15 mins when some good work down the left got the ball to Matt on the edge of the penalty area. A couple of feints brought the ball onto his left foot, and he stroked a curling shot into the bottom corner. Great start.
The goal really didn’t change the pattern of the game, with CPR enjoying good possession and playing some neat passing football, particularly down the left where Paul was enjoying his midfield role. KP threatened to break through once or twice, but it was CPR who were to score again.
CPR advanced the ball down their right flank, and the KP left-back was rather short with his pass-back to the keeper, This allowed Matt to nip in and poke the ball into the net.
This goal really stung KP into life, and they enjoyed a spell of around 20 mins where they created five or six pretty good chances, which were all squandered thanks to their forwards’ hesitancy, and good tracking back from CPR. By halftime CPR seemed to have weathered the storm, and they went in 2-0 ahead.
It was pretty obvious that the next goal was going to be crucial, and yet again it fell to CPR. Within minutes of the restart Paul hit a long ball through the centre, the KP defence hesitated again, and Matt was on to it, taking it into the box and sliding it past the keeper for his hat-trick.
The third goal killed off the game as a contest, knocking the heart out of a Kensington Place side who had rather struggled to get going. They continued to make breakaways, and had a couple of close things, but they never really looked like getting back into the game.
Final score: CPR 3, Kensington Place 0
